Perfection Is a Myth
Perfection Is a Myth
To be perfect is to be unable to improve any further.
The concept of "perfection" is just a limiting idea. The pursuit of absolute perfection is a dead end, as it leaves no room for improvement or further development. There's no space for imagination or creativity. A pure waste of intelligence.
Imagine there's a guy who says, "I'm perfect". Eventually, he'll lose that hunger to learn, to explore new things, and to experiment as he'll constantly worry about IMPERFECTIONS.
And remember, nothing is perfect: no being, no story, no day, no moment; nothing. Close to perfect can be a thing, but perfection is a total myth.
So if this happens, then it just means "success is taking over your mind". You performed exceptionally well in a few things, which made you believe that you're perfect, but it's not the case. Success is just getting over your head, and you're unable to act rationally. You lose that exceptional touch you once had, and eventually you'll find yourself struggling to survive in your respective field.
Real Life Story
Let's recall the story of two cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. Both were said to be exceptionally well in cricket. Though they both were really good in cricket, it was said that Kambli had an edge over Tendulkar.
Then why is Sachin Tendulkar considered a goat in cricket and Vinod Kambli is nowhere to be found?
The answer is what we discussed in the start of this blog; success took over his mind, and as a result, he lost his will to work hard. Meanwhile, Sachin never stopped practicing, and now we all can see the results.
You can find endless examples in the world:
• Shah Rukh Khan is considered to be the king of Bollywood, but still he's not perfect. It was said by a director in his initial days that his hair was uncontrollable and his face wasn't up to the mark; he could never work as a romantic actor, but the rest is history.
• Amitabh Bachchan was said to have a bad voice for acting, and today we all love his unique voice.
• Neither Ronaldo nor Messi is perfect, but still they are the GOATs of football.
• Albert Einstein didn't invent the bulb on his first try; it took him 1000s of attempts to invent a bulb. Still, when he was asked about his failures, he said, "I have not failed; I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
If they had stopped after those failures, we would have never known them. Today people take inspiration from them, but they are not even perfect; this proves that perfection doesn't exist.
So it's not what you are but how you go ahead.
It's really important to strive for improvement. You really need to exceed your limitations rather than being fixated on that “unattainable” perfect state.
Bhagavad Gita
Let's add some teachings from the Bhagavad Gita to this too:
"Karmanye vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshu kadachana." (Chapter 2, Verse 47)
It means that you have the right to perform your duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions.
So it's a waste to worry about what may happen in the near future; just do your work. If your karma isn't up to the mark, even if you are close to perfection, be ready to fall. It's as simple as that.
Every being is perfect in their own sense, but you cannot set a standard for its measurement.
Beauty Of Imperfection
Imagine everything's perfect in the world: every human is beautiful, every story is perfect, there's no heartbreak, no mistakes, no failures, and no struggles. Will life be interesting then? No, it won't. Our imperfections make us unique.
The imperfections make us differentiate things, and as they say, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder".
Even nature is imperfect. The same type of trees are different; no sunset is the same, and nights look different; there's no symmetry in anything. And yet, everything in nature looks so beautiful to our eyes.
Then why do we, as humans, fall for the facade of perfection?
If everything was perfect, you would never appreciate the beauty; you would never really understand the true meaning of beauty.
Why Do We Chase Perfection?
Since our childhood, we are told to do better as we are expected to be the best. The perfect child, the perfect friend, the perfect student, the perfect professional. But it's not possible to be perfect, so why are we still carrying the weight of those vague expectations till today?
You can be a jack of all trades, but you cannot expect yourself to be perfect in every trade, right? So stop being perfect and accept that everyone has flaws; what might be good for them doesn't mean it would be good for you too. Everyone is built differently, and everyone lives differently.
Let Go of the Pressure
Stop running for perfection; it's an endless loop. You will get tired but will never touch perfection. Instead, try to be better than yesterday. Pay attention to your improvement, growth, and learning. Life isn't about being perfect; it's about enjoying the journey.
A person constantly trying to learn something new is far better than a perfect being (which is just a vague term).
Call to Action
It's up to you whether you want to live in the illusion of being perfect or you want to pursue everything that is not in your grasp yet.
Before deciding, just remember that pursuing something that is yet to be attained will make you grow, and calling yourself perfect will just make you vanish, as
PERFECTION IS A FALLACY.
