The Art of Not Overthinking: From One Messy Brain to Another
The Art of Not Overthinking: From One Messy Brain to Another
Ever caught yourself trapped in your own mind?
Whether it’s mature thoughts like
“What happened a few years back?”,
“What's going to happen in the next few years?”, or even
“What's happening right now?”
... Or completely unrelated nonsense like “Can coffee and Glucon-D be taken together?”
Our brain just... won’t stop.
And let’s not pretend we haven’t rehearsed convos in front of teachers who don’t even know we exist.
You have, right?
Same here.
And you know what’s even funnier? We know it’s bad for us; we know it's pointless; but we do it anyway.
They say the brain is our ultimate protector. Funny, because sometimes it feels like it's exists to ruin us (unintentionally… I hope)
How Overthinking Starts from the Smallest Things
You ask yourself something simple like, "What should I wear for tomorrow's event?"
And suddenly your brain questions your entire existence, like
"You don’t know the basic rule of 'all black'?"
And if you do pick black... "It's too loud— attracts too much attention". And if nothing, it just starts body-shaming you.
It never. Freaking. Ends.
I used to think it was just me… Until a friend once blurted: "Bro, I’ve been overthinking what to wear to this thing for two days"... Like seriously?
Well me? I get roasted harder by my own brain.
So, Why Do We Overthink Everything?
Wouldn’t life be easier if we could just… stop?
Want to go out, just go.
Write something, just hit “publish” without editing it 273 times.
We’re mentally exhausted. Not because of how much we carry on our shoulders… But because we carry too many thoughts in our heads. And 90% of them? Complete, certified nonsense.
Can You Stop Overthinking? (Spoiler: Not Really, But Here’s What Helps)
I wish I had a magical 7-step detox plan.
But here's the truth? Overthinking's not something you switch off. It's not your enemy. It’s not even a problem. It’s just... you.
Like everything else, it has its own ups and downs. You don’t have to get rid of it. You just have to learn to walk beside it.
Picture This: A Simple Metaphor For Overthinking
Let’s say you have two roads ahead:
• One is pitch dark—no lights, pure mystery.
• The other has a pack of wild stray dogs
Now what do you do?
If you charge forward without thinking... I know you won't do it.
If you overthink? You'll stay frozen, whispering:
"What if I might trip into a manhole?"
"What if some gang is hiding there to loot me?"
"What if the dogs attack and I end up dead?"
See the pattern? Endless “what ifs” lead to nowhere.
But what if you remember something simple — you've got biscuits in your bag. You offer them to the dogs. They wag their tails. You walk through.
(And no, don’t overthink. It's my story and you do have those biscuits. Chill.)
How I Tame My Overthinking Mind (Most Days)
1. Writing it out - Thoughts in my head? Scattered, loud, and stressful. But on paper? They suddenly seem manageable and quiet.
Bonus? I discovered my creative side through this. Maybe you will too.
2. Talking it out - Friends, siblings, parents, strangers at those tea stalls, even animals; No structure. No filter. Just venting. It helps. Trust me.
3. Reminding myself of this simple truth - If a thought exists in my mind, maybe it’s here to tell me something. Like a sign of the universe and I try to understand its pattern.
(This one’s a little advance. Won’t recommend on bad days.)
Overthinking Doesn't Make You Weak — It Makes You Human.
If you overthink? Congrats. You’re human. And not just human, but a deeply-caring and a beautiful soul.
You care about how things turn out. You want to do it right. You want people to feel good. That’s not a weakness; that’s heart.
A Love Letter To the Overthinkers
To all those who
• Take 40 minutes to pick one outfit
• Rehearse convos that never happen
• Hesitate to speak but think boldly
• Feel everything a little too deeply
You are not weird. You are not broken. You are just built with an extra wiring and guess what? That wiring can light up the world.
Final Thought: Don’t Trust Every Thought
Next time someone tells you to “just stop overthinking", Just smile.
Because you're not here to silence your brain. You're here to understand when to listen, and when to let go.
And trust me, overthinking is a blessing in disguise if used properly. So guide it. Channel it. Befriend it.
